Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez has stepped into some controversy after providing special meals for Muslim inmates during Ramadan, the annual Islamic month of fasting.

Pakistani outlet The News reported last week that Valdez acknowledged providing halal meals in Dallas County Jail during this year’s observances between July 8 and Aug. 7.

The sheriff spoke of the effort to meet incarcerated Muslims’ needs during her 66th birthday celebration at the home of American Muslim Democratic Caucus co-chair Syed Fayyaz Hassan earlier this month.

No kidding, if you fuckin believe in your religion then you should not be in jail at all. Getting all religious and asking for halal meal is just plain BS. I would give them cockmeat sammich or turd sammich alternate days.
Not against the religions its just the coward fucktards hide behind it once commiting crimes.

When I worked in a jail (Travis Co, NOT Dallas) most of our "guests" claimed to be muslim because it was an extra pain in the ass for us. They didn't do prayers and only observed holidays that gave them special privileges. For special meals if there was a problem they got a damn sandwhich, which is all we gave people who got booked after meals were served anyway.

If someone has special dietary needs for medical reasons, sure, do it. Otherwise, you're in jail. You may not be convicted (depending on what facility we're talking about) but you did something that made a police officer think you were worth the paperwork. Suck it up and deal and if convicted tough shit.

EDIT - Also, Lupe Valdez is a freakin' joke of a Sheriff. Margo Frasier was the sheriff in Travis when I worked there, also an open lesbian, but ran on her law enforcement creds and was a damn fine officer.

They served them at Gitmo also.

All federal civilian facilities as well. And it's not only muslims , they generally will cater (diet/special observances/rituals) to even kookier groups that comes up with more then a few members in any of their facilities.

I agree with Kusai about sucking it up, but prisoners are generally not men in the sense we would consider a man to be . When you really break them down, they tend to be big cry babies and just plain juvenile, so when you put them all together you are bound to get the nursery school mentality going on.
