Headed down to San Antonio Friday night anyone have recommendations for a decent meal? Looking to spend around say $75 total for 2 people. I don't really want to eat at the Riverwalk.

    Thanks Fellas

Steer clear of the Tower of the Americas to eat, but it's a great place to have a drink afterward (especially in the evening!).

Otherwise, there are a ton of great restaurants downtown. What kind of fare are you looking for?

Most restaurants actually on the Riverwalk are chains, whereas if you go "off Riverwalk" you can find some great local restaurants closeby, such as Azuca on south Alamo Street, La Foccochia Restaurant at South Alamo and S. Presa, Bohanan's for steak, Mi Tierra, etc.

But if it has to be on the Riverwalk, some recommendations would be Casa Rio, Republic of Texas, etc. Try looking through this.

    Cheers! M2

Nothing special really, just good quality food. Not really looking for Tex Mex, we get plenty of that up here. For example we are going to Jeffrey's in Austin on Sat night..

Well, San Antonio IS TexMEx so that kinda rules out a huge chunk of restaurants. Texas Land and Cattle is pretty decent up around 410 and San Pedro somewhere.

I get that its heavy on the TexMex, but there have to be other options. We have a TLAC up here. I was pretty impressed, but looking to go maybe one step up from a place like that..

La Margerita or Mi Tierra (same owners) are great.......as mentioned already, Casa Rio is the ONLY mexican restaurant on the riverwalk worth going too

Chuys up on 281 near 1604 is great.....La Fogata is a solid choice

if you want a REALLY good and REALLY big chicken fried steak, Mama's jailhouse cafe on Main street (I think) is good

Spaghetti Warehouse is a great place and should leave you well under $75 unless you want a bottle of wine. It's a nice place for a date though not the most romantic.

If you're willing to travel about 15 minutes out of San Antonio, the Old Alsace restaurant in Castroville is a great German/French steakhouse. Take HWY 90 W out of San Antonio to get there. It's just off Castroville's town square.
