Well, I didn't get to shoot anything last night, but I did rescue a deer. She was caught up in the fence, body across the top wire, hind legs having going through between the top wire and the next wire. They could not reach the ground. She was exhausted and in considerable distress. Not my normal night of hunting...

I've found a few that didn't get loose but there wasn't anything I could do other than untangle the fence. Great save.

Not for the coyote. It's sucks for them. They would have left a few bones picked clean. Entrails gone too. Mother Nature's clean up squad. No matter, if the deer was bad enough injured. They got it anyway.

Based on this deer, I could see where that could happen fast, particularly if coyotes attack it. No doubt she was lucky on the timing.

Barb wire fences can do some weird stuff. My father in law was Quail hunting with his buddies and one of their dogs got lost. Fortunately, it had a tracking collar on. She had stuck her front legs through the two bottom strands, and flipped over on her back. Somehow, she was too tangled up to get loose. She would have been coyote bait without the collar.

I had learned previously, from reading stories like yours, to try to protect myself as best as possible to reduce that likelihood. I think my deer was probably a lot more exhausted than your deer as well, so I got pretty lucky.
