Went out today to crack my windows after putting them up for the rain yesterday.
Put key in ignition, battery is dead.
Pulled key out to go get charger, and keep hearing ding, ding, ding as if key is in the ignition, and door is open.
Nope, key is in my hand, and door is closed.
    Ding, ding ding still happening.
Pulled battery cable from battery to stop it, and is currently charging.

    Any thoughts from resident pros?

When the voltage gets low. Relays can act funny. The ding ding ding you're hearing is ok. Once you charge the battery back up it'll stop.

    No biggy.

    Gunz are icky.
    That's good to hear.

What caused the battery to go dead?
Not sure how old it is, might just be time.

These days batteries just seem to die in an instant.
You can take it to an Auto Parts place and they can check it for you. Most oil change places can do it as well.
    Best just to replace it.

Parasitic load or old battery. If you have a test light or a multimeter. As you hook the battery back up. Connect the ground and then check if there's any current flowing between the unconnected positive terminal and the battery, if so that's bad. If the truck is off. There shouldn't be power flowing.

Scum film on top of the battery can cause current between the terminals. Clean the battery good. You can test that by multimeter. Touch a terminal and then stick the other probe halfway between the terminals on the battery top. Any current noted is bad. Cleaning it will stop it.

Yeah, just now remembered that I had a dash cam plugged in for several days, noticed it when I put the windows up, and haven't driven the truck since Friday.

That could explain the dead battery.

Most batteries have a life cycle of 3,000 ± start cycles. Two starts a day works out to about 49 months. Hey! I said about.

    Not a bad idea.
I believe this one is close to 3.

Maintain charger. The wave of the future. Harbor Freight has one for $10. Run an extension cord out to the truck. Plug the trickle charger in and forget about it. I recently bought one for a optima red top battery. It keeps it fully loaded. I can store the battery for about 8-9 years. If needed. Every time I stick the battery back in the car. It's like it's new.
