If I can't take care of any self defence situation with 16 rounds, there is too many of them and I am not going to make it. No need to give them extra ammo when they take my gun after I am dead.

If you think your equipment is not that reliable you need better equipment. I carried a gun for 12 years as a street cop and never drew it. My probably of using it for self defence is nil. But I always have it and test it regularly. I see no need to carry around a lot of extra weight and increase my chances of being made carrying. I am not a combat troop or swat member on my way to a known threat.

I know it's good to be prepared and all, but I never thought it realistic that I would end up engaging in a full-out Hollywood-style gunfight so I've never carried a spare. I figure if I run out and am still in need, then I'm probably in a situation where one more magazine isn't going to help me. I would be more apt to carry a backup handgun. The New York reload is faster and having two guns means redundancy - so if your firing pin decides to break on you at a crucial time, you're not screwed.

I suppose the way you view the firing pin, I view the magazine.

If there is a problem with the magazine or it gets dropped I can pull my second mag and still be in the fight. Carrying two guns? Sure why not but thats not for me.

Me neither. That's why I stay in shape. Hopefully I can run myself out of a situation if I'm running low on ammo.

Do I? No. Should I? Yes. I carry a G32 and I have a blackhawk double mag holster. Usually I have it jammed between the driver seat and the console in my car. I know that it would be better if I did, but I am already a smaller guy and I worry that it would be too much to comfortably conceal.
