Oh my!! It just seems like another case of keeping your finger away from the trigger. Not sure, because the story was missing details, but it did not mention a holster of any sort. Just be safe....don't want to shoot "John Thomas" as they put it.

This is why I've carried for years without one in the chamber. I know there are many out there who chose to do otherwise, my brother being one of them, but I just can't bring myself to do it. Yes, if I'm going into a sketchy situation or out in the woods with the piggies I'll jack one in but I always clear it afterward. Even though I know I have not chambered one I will still check it before holstering it. An ounce of prevention...

    From the article,
Although he had a permit to carry the gun, he may face charges of reckless discharge of a firearm, Clemence said. The city's prosecutor is expected to review the case, he added.

Come on guys, I think shooting a hole in your johnson is punishment enough, and I am sure he is already rehabilitated from any future criminal activity in those regards.

The article said he was moving it around in his pants.
Sounds like he had no holster at all, to me...

Maybe he can locate John Wayne Bobbit's porn-agent and get famous!

If you carry properly and have a quality holster there is no need, dare I say it is silly, to carry with the chamber empty.
Silly is getting off light. And let's not even talk about the extra, unecessary manipulations mentioned. Every time you handle a gun is a chance for an ND. It ain't goung to fire in a halfway decent or better holster, though. A lot of people I know keepbtheir carry gun in the holster, just transfer the whole assembly over when they change clothes.

While I tend to agree with this, I'm not gonna tell another man how to carry his gear.
In that same spirit, the other man should not complain when he can't draw fast enough in a horrific situation because he carries an empty gun.

And to add to comments about a holster, buy a decent gun that has built in safeties that lessen the chance of firing if dropped on the floor. If I remember correctly it was a two shot derringer style pistol involved in the Kingwood accident.
