I just acquired a new DPMS LR308. It has a 24" chrome moly heavy barrel. I am taking it the range tomorrow for it's initial test run. I loaded some 150 grain SPBT [manufacturer unknown] rounds, some 155 Hornady A-max bullets, and some Sierra 155 grain Matchking bullets all using 45 grains of Winchester 748 powder. I am looking for an accuracy load at 100 yards (maximum distance at the local range). Anyone have a favorite load they would like to share for this type of rifle at this distance?
I know this will probably be a Ford vs Chevy thing with everyone suggesting their favorite loads, but I am still interested in your input.
I have over 20 lbs. of Winchester 748 powder here at the house. I use it for my .223 ammo that I shoot in my Rock River AR. I get dime size groups at 100 yards using Sierra 52 gr. Matchking bullets and 25.6 grains of 748 powder. I chronograph-ed this load last week and it averaged 3050 fps. out of the RRA Standard A4 20" barrel.
