I have some active and escape prone Mutts. Siberian mixes. They are very smart. Smallest is 40lbs+.
Put up a new fence and a friend gave me a "10 acre" electric fence. I have a large lot but its still just a subdivision yard. Installed according to instructions including a 6' deep ground rod. The doggies watched the installation and like lambs to the slaughter took turns sniffing and gettng shocked. Two ran for the house and pooped in the living room in protest. All are testing the fence at different places and are very nervious about hanging in the yard.
The wife watched her fav dog get hit a few times. (Maybe they are not that smart after all.) She asked, If this is made to shock big animals like horses and cows, could it kill a dog? Or a neighbor cat that can't read the warning sign.
I'm of the opinion that since it's DC it"s reasonably safe. Also I don't see it being up for more than a month or so, as their behavior should be changed pretty quick. Or they may think its fun. I know some here have acreage and may use these fences. What do you think?
