I maintain some professional certifications and similar software is used. But I also have the option of driving to a Prometric testing facility for secure/monitored tests.

As far as I can see (someone please correct me if I've missed it), the OP has not yet said whether or not he has the option to take tests anywhere other than on his own computer.

Since the program can see what tabs you have open I would have about 10 church tabs and 10 hard core porn tabs opened up. Not to mention a couple AR’s hanging on the walls plus a couple wall hanger shotguns. I also would have an amazon link open with a cart full of bdsm supplies. I would also have a Gadsden flag and a CSA flag all proudly hung within full view during the time you are being watched.

Let them look through that info for awhile.

You signed up for the course, you can drop out any time, it's only money and credit toward your diploma.

Didn't know the Colorado School of Mines had a flag.

Vexillology is fun. The Colorado School of Mines doesn't show a flag on their web site so I tweeted them to ask if they had one. If they respond, I'll post back.

    Turns out, they do.

Tell them all you have is your Obama phone and do they have an app for that?

That should tickle the heart of any liberal professor. :usflag:

ETA: Yes, I DO consider it an invasion of privacy, as well as an unreasonable risk to my private and financial information on the computer it is installed upon. No way in hell what I allow that type of software on any computer I own(.) Is there an option to take the exam onsite?

Or in his own home. In the classroom, there is very little expectation of privacy. In essence, the computer is now the classroom, so long as the program isn’t invasive with respect to the box itself, I don’t know there’s a remedy. That the user chooses to bring the classroom into his/her house is a choice the user makes, unless the school policy says “thou shalt”.

Showing an ID and surveillance of the text taking area, and restricting resources are common and normal things in proctoring.

Which begs the question of whether there are alternative proctoring options.

Hell, send a message. If your instructor wants to get invasive with you, turn the tables. Go find any social media they have, and have their pictures blown up. Then hang them on your walls, set on your tables, etc. When it's test taking time, make sure any tabs open are for those social media profiles.

Are others in class protesting this invasion or are you alone?

If others are finding this invasion not something they'll abide by, see the dean or call the press. No, the press might not find this a story for publication, but then again better to light a candle than curse the darkness....

    Again, get creative....

    Dallas Texas or so
Take it nude except for a Mardi Gras mask.

    Take it outdoors.

    Take it at an airport.

Have a big brother is watching sign in the background.

Just out of curiosity , did the course requirements or syllabus mention this program?

Take it in a old fashioned phone booth with a seat and closable doors.

Buy a computer or rent one just for this.

Tell her it's not your computer and the owner won't allow it.

Offer to take it in her office.
