Since I've left the service I've been on the job hunt.
I'd prefer to be a firefighter at this point but there is no easy way in as far as I can tell. No external academies like there are for police where I can go to a college and do a Police Academy while there.
I've applied to Garland Fire Department and go to do my testing the last week of this month for a trainee position but I assume I'll be competing against possibly a hundred or more people.
Does anyone know of another route to get onto a FD?
My next option is Police Academy then try to get on with a Sheriff's Department. I really don't want to do City policing but it's an option as well. Or to sign on as a police trainee and go though a City's in-house Academy.
I figure there's plenty of both Firefighters and LEO on this board so any pointers either way would be helpful.
I currently have applications turned into two locations for dispatcher positions as well.
