    Oliver F. Winchester (1810– 1880) was the primary stockholder and owner of the Henry rifle patent, from which later Winchester lever-actions evolved. The firm evolved into the Winchester Repeating Arms Company
    He never designed a single firearm or firearm feature. He was a businessman who had started in the clothing industry

    Benjamin Tyler Henry (Foreman and designer of the modern lever action) worked for Smith & Wesson and began designing the Volcanic lever action for pistol and rifle. Their largest stockholder was clothing manufacturer Oliver Winchester.
