I atleast am just as lenient with cyclists, especially given the overall risk to others, as I am with cars.
I'm less tolerant that I used to be. One cyclist who was a nurse for my sister the last time she spent a couple of weeks in intensive care made a big impression on me. He had an hour-long story about how he loved the fact that when he went out with his cycling club and there were 40+ on the road at one time, they were kings. They could do anything, get away with anything. He had stories of showing up in a small town traffic court with 60 people and bullying the judge and everyone else into dropping all charges against anyone in the group. He had lots of stuff like that.

Total power-tripping asshole. I had to hold back to keep from punching him.

He didn't turn me against cyclists but he made me appreciate that assholes in large groups can be dangerous and that I need to watch out for myself if I find myself on the road near them.

sadly most visible cyclists in America are elitists, pay more for their machines than we do for our guns and total A holes. tried riding with a local group and the 'brifter b...ches' told me I wasn't welcome because my bike was too old and didn't have modern enough shifters and they'd have to slow down going around me. families neither. Houston bikers

I did some rides with DC-Velo and that was mostly how they operated. Red-light? Creep in until traffic stopped then the rest of the riders follow...didn't like it and once I learned the route I stopped riding with them because of it.

Critical Mass... would be another group I would never associate with because of their antics. I can't stand them.

But a dude or couple of dudes just out riding, enjoying the day and getting a workout who cruise through a stopsign in a neighborhood or small street or push through a light that is red with no cross traffic because the sensor won't pick them up is low on my list of worries and aggravations. I also don't hassle semi-trucks who have to make a turn from the "wrong lane" because of road dimensions. One law does not fit all situations when it comes to traffic.
