Maybe a bit of jealousy because he didn't spend a buttload of money on a status symbol, he put it in savings.....

ETA: I as a young man, I drove a real POS car as a field officer. Most people were so scared of me they didn't say anything. However, there were several times people remarked that I was obviously underpaid. That wasn't true; I just preferred to spend my money elsewhere.

In fact, at my bureau the opposite dynamic was in place. We actually opened an internal investigation on a probational officer when he started driving a Lotus. No newbie should be able to afford such a nice car.

That email is really weird and it gets weirder the more I think about it.

I don't have a newer vehicle for a couple reasons. The one I have isn't giving me any real problems, I regularly maintain it. The second reason is, I can't find a new car that shoots.

See this nice little scrape here? I was greeted with that after work one day. There's a good reason I drive a shitbox to work and the car my "annual salary" pays for only comes out for cruises and club meets.

If I ever got that notice, I would demonstrate to them that I have even uglier vehicles I could drive to work.
