    Yeah, and what was the hourly pay at the time?
    Minimum wage was $1.60/hr...

    EIGHT TIMES the price of a gallon of regular gasoline....

    Rent was $50/month, heat/water included for apartment above the bar. Owner paid me $20/wk to pack beer on Saturday nights/Sunday mornings after closing (I put that on my lunch tab..she made a mean Turkey Devonshire on Thursdays...all her food was good)...

    Same apt? Was $1700/month plus utilities in 2017... (late Bride pointed out the listing to me)...

    My first job was in 1969 or 1970 washing pots at the local diner. $1.60 an hour including a meal. Gas was $0.28 a gallon. To use the VW I had to fill it.
