Ok guys. Sterling got me in trouble:mad: at the last range meet by letting me shoot his Lever Action better than he did.;)

I now have have the need for one chambered in 45-70.

    My preferences are a pre-Remington Marlin 1895 or a Henry H010.

I need to find one for a good price before my wife decides we need a new grill instead.

    Helotes!
I'm with ya, FF, been jonesing for a lever action rifle for a while but to be honest, I don't know much about 'em!

There's just something too cool about them, and while I've never actually shot one (aghast!), it's just one of those things I "know" I "need!" :D

Good luck, I'll be watching this thread for updates!

    Cheers! M2

I did. They only had one. It was a Remington Marlin.
I have seen too many bad reviews on the "Remlin" 1895's that I dont want to push my luck.

Uberti makes a lot of quality replicas but they ain't cheap. They make a line for Cimarron in Fredericksburg . I have an 1886 Yellow Boy and an 1885 High Wall from them. The High Wall is in 45-70 but it's a falling block single shot, similar to a Quigley gun. Cimarron Home

I'm like you, a little nervous to buy a Remlin. Brownings and Winchesters are top-quality but they're both made in Japan and are also expensive.

My new toy... Marlin 336 in 30-30. 36 years old. I hope my wife looks this good at 36! My brother got it for me as a gift cuz he knew I wanted one and that eventually I would like to get into hunting.

    I wouldn't mind a 336, but it doesn't take a 45-70. I have a thing for big bore firearms. I may get a 30-30 or similar model 336 later but want the 45-70 first.

I have three. Henry 22, Win 44Mag, and Marlin 30-30. They are a blast. The 45-70 is on my list. A buddy had a Marlin stainless shorty that was an awesome gun. Wouldn't mind having one of those.

What's this about "Rem-Marlin" rifles? First I've heard of it.

Remington bought out Marlin a few years back and shipped most of the lever action manufacturing to Japan. Some of the rifles have come out off spec with canted sights binding actions and some other issues.

My 444 Marlin is a hell of a lever gun! My friend (who's got better eyes than me and shoots better) shot a 3/4 inch group with my handloads (265 gr. soft-nose @ 100 yds.). It's got an old Weaver K4 on it. Don't pass one up in that caliber if you see a deal.

I never heard of that. So most current Marlins came from Japan?
