The typical U.S. household headed by a person age 65 or older has a net worth 47 times greater than a household headed by someone under 35, according to an analysis of census data released Monday.

They like to refer to us as senior citizens, old fogies, geezers, and in some cases dinosaurs. Some of us are "Baby Boomers" getting ready to retire. Others have been retired for some time. We walk a little slower these days and our eyes and hearing are not what they once were. We worked hard, raised our children, worshiped our God and grown old together. Yes, we are the ones some refer to as being over the hill, and that is probably true. But before writing us off completely, there are a few things that need to be taken into consideration.

In school we studied English, history, math, and science which enabled us to lead America into the technological age. Most of us remember what outhouses were, many of us with firsthand experience. We remember the days of telephone party-lines, 25 cent gasoline, and milk and ice being delivered to our homes. For those of you who don't know what an icebox is, today they are electric and referred to as refrigerators. A few even remember when cars were started with a crank. Yes, we lived those days.

We are probably considered old fashioned and outdated by many. But there are a few things you need to remember before completely writing us off. We won World War II, fought in Korea and Viet Nam. We can quote The Pledge of Allegiance, and know where to place our hand while doing so. We wore the uniform of our country with pride and lost many friends on the battlefield. We didn't fight for the Socialist States of America; we fought for the "Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave." We wore different uniforms but carried the same flag. We know the words to the Star Spangled Banner, America, and America the Beautiful by heart, and you may even see some tears running down our cheeks as we sing. We have lived what many of you have only read in history books and we feel no obligation to apologize to anyone for America..

Yes, we are old and slow these days but rest assured, we have at least one good fight left in us. We have loved this country, fought for it, and died for it, and now we are going to save it. It is our country and nobody is going to take it away from us. We took oaths to defend America against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and that is an oath we plan to keep. There are those who want to destroy this land we love but, like our founders, there is no way we are going to remain silent.

It was mostly the young people of this nation who elected Obama and the Democratic Congress. You fell for the "Hope and Change" which in reality was nothing but "Hype and Lies."

You youngsters have tasted socialism and seen evil face to face, and have found you don't like it after all. You make a lot of noise, but most are all too interested in their careers or "Climbing the Social Ladder" to be involved in such mundane things as patriotism and voting. Many of those who fell for the "Great Lie" in 2008 are now having buyer's remorse. With all the education we gave you, you didn't have sense enough to see through the lies and instead drank the 'Kool-Aid.' Now you're paying the price and complaining about it. No jobs, lost mortgages, higher taxes, and less freedom.

This is what you voted for and this is what you got. We entrusted you with the Torch of Liberty and you traded it for a paycheck and a fancy house.

Well, don't worry youngsters, the Grey-Haired Brigade is here, and in 2014 we are going to take back our nation. We may drive a little slower than you would like but we get where we're going, and in 2014 we're going to the polls by the millions.

This land does not belong to the man in the White House nor to the likes of Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Eric Holder. It belongs to "We the People" and " We the People" plan to reclaim our land and our freedom. We hope this time you will do a better job of preserving it and passing it along to our grandchildren. So the next time you have the chance to say the Pledge of Allegiance, Stand up, put your hand over your heart, honor our country, and thank God for the old geezers of the "Grey-Haired Brigade."

Footnote: This is spot on. I am another Gray-Haired Geezer signing on. I will circulate this to other Gray-Haired Geezers all over this once great country.

Can you feel the ground shaking???
It's not an earthquake, it is a STAMPEDE.

Nice sentiment, but I think there are some geezers who are just glad that this generation has finally elected someone worst than Carter.

Heck, I've even heard Carter criticize Obama.

Yes, we are old and slow these days but rest assured, we have at least one good fight left in us.

I have a similar view of 2014 USA.

In the America that I grew up in two adults who had a problem with each other, went to a quiet place and scrapped it out. More often than not, the two ended up being friends OR at least shared a respect for each other. Now, if you whup someone's ass, they'll sue and you'll end up in jail.

This day and time has improved my foretelling of the future. Now when the mouthy bastards cut loose at me, I can actually see myself breaking their nose and knocking those perfect, white teeth out. My fists are huge and they're scarred from the teeth of many shxt heads who underestimated me. Then, I snap back to 2014, smile, apologize and walk away. They never knew what they missed.

The CLEET certification Hand to Hand Instructor at our school in Oklahoma knew I was into such things so he challenged me to a full contact match. We wore gloves and head gear only. He did NOT win......snicker.

For round two, he called in Brenda, a hulk of a Female Police Officer. It was two cops against Flash. It started like this....YOU ARE UNDER ARREST!" Reply "F YOU!" and the fight was on!

I took Coy out first and started on Brenda. I was doing pretty well until Coy got back up and smacked me from the side as I was throwing Brenda down. I threw Brenda across my left leg & I was screwed. My ankle was swelled to twice its normal size. I lost that fight AND kept my damned mouth shut about it at the school.

For the rest, I can't pursue and catch the little chicken shxts but if they'll stand and fight, I'll break them in bite sized pieces! The nicest thing at my age (68) is that I have absolutely nothing to lose!

Today, no matter what you buy or whatever service you employ, they shove a ream of papers at you expecting you to sign each one. I read each one and return about 1/2 of them that I refused to sign. The 2014 world is full of "spostas" and "gottas" and 90% of them aren't required for MY well being at all. If they object, I know where the door is and I use it. F 'em.

Low prices offer no attraction to me. Half of these business prixks lure customers in with low prices then treat them like crap. I'd rather pay a bit more and be treated well. I'll patronize local businesses but I'll drive to the moon to avoid an A-Hole business.

Sam's gas station is a perfect example. He is a few cents higher than other stations down the road. I'm always treated well at Sams and once, when I had vehicle trouble, the owner (Sam) drove me home! I'll pay the extra money for that!

Elderly folks get preyed on by swindlers. I'd like to see the bastarxs get a nickle out of this hot blooded Scot! I trust no one and never did!

Sigh................It's late and it was fun remembering that I was once someone who was respected. At least my two little dogs love me.

Too many, especially the younger people, who have no clue what true respect is. Or how to get it.

How true. Sad part is getting too old to teach respect to someone they doesn't want to learn it and has no idea what it is

They demand it. They have no clue that respect is EARNED not demanded.

Just like when I make some comment against Obuttfuck's (I know, name calling isn't right) policies and some younger type tells me I have to respect him because he's president. My response? I respect the office of the President. I do not have to respect the dimbulb holding that office. And at this point and time, I see nothing to respect in the White House.

Our young people don't know the difference between respect and fear. I would prefer that they respect me. I would settle for having them fear me. Unfortunately, they do neither and at 68, it's not my job to teach them what they should already know. They walk around blissful in their ignorance!

I always respected my Father for the incredible job that he and countless thousands of other men and women did in freeing Europe and asia from German and Japanese domination. I can't imagine what that was like. They served "for the duration."

As a Father, he fell way short and beat the living shxt out of me as a little boy. Later, I believe that he knew he would kill me if he continued so he passed the brutality baton to Mom who filled in for him. I grew strong and she couldn't beat me any more so he stepped back in as chief brutal bastard. At that point, I feared him but yet.....I grew stronger and that fear disappeared. In the last meaningful discussion we ever had, I took a knife to him. He never laid a hand on me, again.

SO...the behavior resulting from respect and the behavior resulting from fear are virtually the same. I still respected the Old Man for what he did in Europe but I never feared him again and he damn sure knew it. I never laid eyes on him for the last 20 years of his life.

How do we teach the young ones to have respect OR fear. Answer....We don't........... F 'Em!

Fear and respect are not the same. Anyone I have need to fear does not deserve respect. You can not earn respect with fear. Those I respect, have no need to use fear. There are those I respect and do not necessarily like. Strength of character and will, exceptance of loss as well as wins. Honesty, compassion, integraty, and eeping your word, especialy when you don't have to. These I respect, like you or not.
    Fear? My ass I will.

Edit: if my folks were still alive, they could tell you this; i don't do "or else" options well. Got enough whoopins to prove it too.

Kind of straying off topic here a bit, but you started it. The older I get (not as old as you) the more I wonder about the old folks getting swindled.

At what point does someone go from being the older, wiser generation to one that falls for schemes so easy? I don't trust anyone either, but it's not like this is a new phenomenon.

I used to teach a unit to my technical students. Here's a taste.

Stage 1 16-24 YO. No one listens to you. You have good ideas but "they" won't listen to you. You are the DFK and no one cares about what you think or feel. The strategy to use is keep your eyes open, learn, gain skills and be READY for stage 2.

Stage 2 25-55 YO. You have proven skills and solid management skills. People work for you and listen to you. You are the MAN and you're in power!

Stage 3 56-70 and older. You are the Old Fart, now and you're back to square one! No one listens to you. You still have great ideas but you are cut out of the loop. It's like you're in a bubble where no one speaks to or listens to you. The fall from stage 2 to stage 3 is hard. You may become embittered, angry and it seems so unfair! (Then again, you may use my approach. I don't care if others like me or not and just go on about my business without them. F 'em!)

    Returning to senior swindles......
The elderly have been ignored and disrespected for years after the transition to stage 3. It has been so long since anyone listened to their ideas that a crafty swindler can schmooze right into their confidence and into their wallets. It's easy to cheat an old person. Just give them what they crave......a little attention.

Tons of respect for my elders just like anyone my age that hasn't proved they didn't deserve it.

Great post guys. What kinda type writers have Internet access now? Just kidding.

Ive lived next to the elderly, retired, or just don't want to retire yet people growing up on my parents ranch and now in Corpus Christi. I help out where I can, but I ask if I can help first. They've been the best neighbors ever. All of them. No drama, good stories, good advice, and better people. Sure I call people fogeys. It feels less formal/vanilla than elderly or retired.

I watch out for and run off people with clip boards that I see around dinner time in the neighborhood. I also pick up the trash and knocked down signs, flags and decorations that everyone puts out that wind or grandkids knock over.

Some young people have egos and love to feed them. I'm not one of them. Weve all got stuff to learn from one another.

    Gunz are icky.
Elders get swindled because their memory fades. They forget to distrust.
My own father was almost scammed.
One day a guy called him out of the blue, said he was from the bank and needed Dad's account numbers.
Dad just started giving the numbers.
Luckily Sister was right there and caught it. She took the phone and the guy hung up.
The bank was called and numbers were changed but it was a very close thing.
It is sad when elders reach the point where you have to take charge or they can lose everything.

Then I'll be safe because my attitude is just leave me alone.

This is the part I worry about. Mental abilities fading and not being able to realize they've done so.
