I teach a class at Temple College on Monday nights. It's about a 30-45 minute lecture and then lab time which consists of the students working through the assignment while I bounce around and answer questions.

Last night, I was helping another student when Cathy (a good old country kind of gal) raised her hand and said, "When you get a minute, I got a question."

By the time I got there, she had figured it out on her own. (Way to go, Cath!)
She was feeling kind of smug, so she talked some smack when I walked up:

    "Okay, Cathy, whatcha got?"

"Nope, don't need ya. Ya took too long. Try again next time - just come back later."

I thought for just a quick second and put the ball right back in her court.

"Okay, no problem. Just let me know if you need me to bring my step-ladder so you can climb down off your high horse."

She cracked up, and so did the rest of the class. Have I mentioned that I really enjoy teaching?

What good comebacks have y'all come back with?

I'm more of a pragmatic, take-it-at-face-value kind of person, so I probably would have said, "Well, maybe next time."

My favorite historical quote is from a conversation between Winston Churchill and Lady Astor, who hated each other:

Lady Astor: "Winston, if you were my husband I'd poison your tea."

Churchill: "Nancy, if I were your husband I'd drink it."

    My favorite historical quote:

The commander of U.S. forces besieged in Bastogne (WWII) gave to a German demand to surrender: "Nuts! .
