Hi everyone my name is Alessandra I am 20 years old, a student, photographer, and wife living in Italy. First of all I joined this forum to learn more about everything from laws, tips, ownership, etc. I have always had a passion for arms but have never owned one. I was planning on taking courses, going to the range, buying, and even joining the NRA in the future back in El Paso, Texas but I moved away. My husband and I are planning on moving back to Texas and I want to legally own a weapon for self defense and sport. I have been reading information to how to go abouts the process and have been finding it so confusing and overwhelming. I hope to learn more things by being in this forum.

Hmmm....not very difficult to buy a gun if you are a legal TX resident.

Welcome to TGT from the correct side of the pond!

Um, it is when you live in Italy.

I can see where it might be intimidating to a 20 yeard old young woman who is not familiar with firearms, even in Texas.

Can I interest you in a free refresher course? LOL

My husband and I are planning on moving back to Texas and I want to legally own a weapon for self defense and sport....
But I agree with your last point, I was hoping to help her relax a little.

Welcome! Are you in Vicenza at the moment? I take it your husband's in the Army, and there aren't that many places in Italy to be stationed anymore. I've been down there a few times, it's really beautiful there...

    Cheers! M2

    Welcome to TGT.

When you move back it is a very simple process to buy a gun.

Yep. If you buy it used privately, it's like buying a toaster... unless the seller wants you to sign a bill of sale.

    yes I just went there!

    Welcome to the forum!

I was stationed at the U. S. Army Garrison Vicenza back in the mid '90s. We did security for the Air Force base there during Operation Deny Flight (Bosnia and Herzagovina). I loved the area but didn't get to wander around off base much at all. It's a bucket list thing for me now to get back there and do some exploring. I hope you really enjoy your time in Italy and hope you get back to Texas safely.

There's a chance that if you were manning the gates, we may have crossed paths. I was at the CAOC in Vicenza a few times while stationed at Ramstein...

Very cool. I was assigned to certain parts of the base away from the gates. We were working a rotation schedule out of our regular duty station in Freidburg/Kirchgons, Germany. I drove through Ramstein several times but don't really remember much about it (I would recognize the local beers in a snap though. Funny how the mind works).

If you can, get up to Brescia and tour the Beretta facilities. That area is known as the "Valley of the Gun" with a number of extremely fine and handcrafted gun makers.

Contact Beretta USA to get information about how to get tours in Italy.

    welcome..................
