now say i have in my pack, a weapon unloaded slide locked back and ammo in a separate pouch. and a LEO thinks i look "suspicious" and decided to look through my stuff.
am i going to jail for unlawful carry?

Yes, you would get arrested if the LEO wanted to arrest you, and he probably would.

When is the last time you were stopped and searched by a police officer? But, the safe bet would be to take the class and get your CHL, or not carry (the weapon isn't much good without the ammo with it). If you are just transporting it, a locked case would be more appropriate (inside the bag).

PS I'm with the rest of posters, you would probably go to jail. Better to avoid that situation.

I will go with the crowd on this one. If you want to carry it in your backpack, keep it in a locked case or you will most likely be arrested.
