Looks like the closest public land that allows rifle hunting for hogs is Sam Houston NF. Check TPWD: Texas Locator Map of Public Hunting Areas for more places. Honestly there's just not much public land that allows rifle hunting for hogs. I'm in more or less same boat, closest public hog hunting to me is almost 2 hrs away.
