He was a good chief and he did the best with what he had to work with. He wasn't perfect. I think if he would have fell on his sword, admitted responsibility even though it wasn't his, it wouldn't have given the media anywhere to go. I think our officers union leaked that old email to the media to get him out.

He was playing checkers when he should have been playing chess, and it cost him. The overwhelming majority of those cases were mis-titled bullshit reports that had no workable leads. All of the actual sexual assault cases have had follow-up investigations. Whoever they pick to be the next chief won't be any better than Finner unless he's a magician.

I heard the same rumor. Whitmore said he's picking the chief on his own without influence from the dept. IMO, he thinks all the command staff is "tainted" and he wants an outsider. Somebody that he has influence over.

I'm not looking forward to that, but I can see the finish line from where I'm at. I'm trying to make it to 30 years in Houston and retiring to a smaller rural sheriff dept.
