Afghanistan has always been in the too hard box.
I think the Taliban will find out that the Chinese do not play the same game - let alone the same rules - as the U.S. and Russia did.
Killing cockroaches even with advanced chemical warfare results in cutting and running!Afghans have been fighting over there for thousands of years against invaders. The Russians were not exactly weak sisters in the game of war, and brought a lot of firepower with them. Lot of good it did them.
In fairness, if China "wants the land more than they do", then in taking it they will simultaneously solve the problem of anyone wanting it back.Having spent three deployments in AFG, you’ve got to want the land more than they do if you want to win. Every square inch of it. Then, you’ve got to want to keep it more than they want it back.
Not an easy thing to do.
That is exactly what I mean. China does not care about the world response to its treatment of the Uyghurs, the folks in Hong Kong, or in Tiananmen square, so who would care more about the Taliban? In fairness, if China "wants the land more than they do", then in taking it they will simultaneously solve the problem of anyone wanting it back.
