I have a true to period Kentucky long rifle I built from a kit. I put a lot of time into firing this rifle and getting to know it.

First off, I pity the fool that has a flintlock. But, even with a percussion cap rifle.....it's always , "Will this thing even go bang?" Sooo, can you imagine having a single shot rifle that took an eternity to reload ....to not only gather the family food, but defend yourself with?

There was a very good reason that woodsmen and trappers often banded together. And carried all manner of tomahawks and knives.

I can only imagine how the early Texas Rangers saw Mr. Colt's invention as a true God sent gift.
