Well, my mother is a bartender, so I'm at the club( sober) where she works at. The manager walks by and I proceed to ask him a question if I'm able to have my firearm in the club when itsclosed. He said he didn't know but he would assume yes, and in case I do use it, its self defense. He said he will be fine with me carrying, as long as I'm not waving it around or doing anything wrong.

So then I ask him, what's your opinion on banning large capacity magazines and semi auto rifles. His reply, I'm for it. I'm like wtf!!!! He proceeds nobody should own one, not a lot of people use it for hunting, and its bad for defense because its a offensive weapon. At this point I say :name: I don't like you anymore. He mentioned the attack in Colorado wouldn't have happened if semi auto rifles were banned, I said if a criminal or insane person or anybody couldn't use an a.r. they would have used another firearm.

So then I ask if he has his Texas c.h.l and he says no, and I won't waste my time getting it, I just carry from home to car, I don't need to carry at Wal-Mart or movies.(in my mind: perhaps carrying there would have stopped the attack sooner in Colorado)

I just don't understand people these days. So I just left from his office and began typing this.

Regardless of what the ill informed manager told you, it is unlawful to carry in a bar. The law makes no distinction between carry when open or closed. You commit a felony if you carry there. There are exceptions, but "my mother works there" is not one.

Why would you engage someone in a conversation about such things? It's like talking religion or politics with them. Nothing is to be gained and it just pisses you off. I tell them I don't want to discuss it. If they persist, I tell them to shove off or I leave depending upon what's most convenient for me.

Glad to clear that out of the way, but not even if I have written permission from the owner? I won't carry just because my mom works there, and that won't be my excuse. I will rather feel safer having it with me, if someone decides to rob the place when its just a couple of us.

While reading the OP I was thinking what you said... then, scrolled down to the next post and saw your response.

There are quite a few of these shortsighted people in our country. In 2008 there were enough of them to elect a socialist to the highest office in the land.

Ive been trying to locate the exceptions..

ALL I CAN find out is if it is something such as a old battlescene recreation its allowed. I know i cant spell that word. My google is messing up also.

This is the best LAW site I have found: Its great:
    http://law.onecle.com/texas/penal/chapter46.html

Click Texas to the left and it will take you back to all of the current laws. There are so many once you read several you see its not such a 100% free country. I know, we have to have rules and regs.

Getting angry with the person for disagreeing will not help our case. Educate yourself as much as possible on the REAL numbers, and make a calm rational argument.

When someone says a ban would have stopped it from happening you only have to point out that criminals, by nature, do not follow laws.

Stay calm, friendly, and use irrefutable facts tans no matter how they argue they will know deep down you are right. And whatever happens, don't get mad. They will just dig in deeper and will become a permanent loss as they tell their friends about the "crazy irate gun owner" who couldn't handle the truth.

When I research it takes me to gun clubs, or that Houston 5 dollar head entry or something like that for clubs.

Ok not to be an ass or to start shit, but can please tell me where that statute is?
All I can find is a bar has to display a "51%" sign if no sign is present you are legal. I have the latest law PDF downloaded to my phone and just went through it.

The sign is there, I wouldn't take it in during open hours, my question is when bar is closed, doors are closed.

The manager has a right to his opinion... whether we like it or not. This conversation should have never happened.

So what you're saying is I shouldn't have small talk to see if I have any common interest? Or views on certain matters because I don't agree with them?

Is a school no longer a school when students are gone for summer? From my interpreation of the penal code, there is no designation of open for business or closed for business. The below is taken directly from the TXDPS website: http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/InternetForms/Forms/CHL-16.pdf

PC §46.035. UNLAWFUL CARRYING OF HANDGUN BY LICENSE
HOLDER. (a) A license holder commits an offense if the license holder
carries a handgun on or about the license holder's person under the
authority of Subchapter H, Chapter 411

    (1) on the premises of a business that has a permit or license issued
under Chapter 25, 28, 32, 69, or 74, Alcoholic Beverage Code, if the
business derives 51 percent or more of its income from the sale or service
of alcoholic beverages for on-premises consumption, as determined by
the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission under Section 104.06,
    Alcoholic Beverage Code;

No... not so much that. I'm saying that the conversation probably should have just ended peacefully once it was established that he had differing views that you weren't going to change by being an ass.
