I want a .22 bolt rifle and I'm intrigued by the straight-pulls. I'd like this to be a svelte, aperture-sight rifle. Since I'm not looking to step up to a full Forstner multi-gigabuck rifle, my choices seem to be:
    1. Browning T-bolt,
    2. Russian Izhmash,
    3. ISSC (designed with optics in mind but with a really cool synthetic stock), and
    4. PWS T3 (getting kinda pricey and based on a 10/22, so probably not what I want).
Are there any others? Does anybody have any experience with these or other straight-pull bolt rifles in .22? Tell me what you think of the ones you've used.

    TIA.

Not in the same league as the ones you mention but I really like my new Ruger American.

Help a noobie out... what is a "straight pull" bolt rifle? A different action than "up then back/forward then down"?

Yep, just Back and forth. They typically have a toggle or internal rotating bolt so the action does lock when in battery. Not sure about the 22s.

Yeah. Just like the name, you move the bolt in one motion back, one motion forward.

Did you see the rifles used in biathlon in the Winter Olympics? Those are straight-pulls.

This is a full-on competition version of the Izmash. Both they and Anschutz produce sporter versions, too. I'm looking for a sporter but I don't want to spend Anschutz money; the Anschutz sporter runs around $2000.

Of course, now that I've seen the T-bolt in action (I've watched too much video already this morning), I find myself wondering if I will ever be satisfied by something less slick than a Forstner. Here's a nice (non-range) overview of the T-bolt.

Now, compare that with the smoothness of a real, top-end Forstner. Go to the 30-second mark in the video to see what I mean.

Anschutz makes a Forstner sporter, but only in .17HMR. :(

This video is long but has good detail and the unsuitable music goes away after about 90 seconds.
