16 hours split over 2 days isn't great, but not a showstopper. I imagine instructors will structure their classes to fit the schedules as necessary - Sat/Sun course, Sat/Sat course, Mon/Tue course, etc.

It's a foot in the door. Considering it is Illinois, that is a good thing. You bet the terms are disagreeable considering the rest of the free country has been successfully doing it less stringently for years. But 'the new people' have to start somewhere. They have to go through it themselves and experience it before they understand it. Hopefully in the coming sessions as the program grows more and more folks will step up and the specifics will be changed for the better. Consider what was required by TX when CHL started in '95. There are some changes many would still like to make here and 18yrs later those proposals still get shot down. It won't happen overnight, as much as we think it should. But, they have a start.

I'm glad Illinois gun owners had major victory and are making progress. Its a huge step for them.

Still much more lost ground that needs to be taken back in both Texas and Illinois and many states all over the country.

What will happen in Chicago itself, don't they like outlaw ALL handguns?

After McDonald in 2010, Chicago had to drop their de facto ban. You have to register and get trained and approved to get a permit to own a handgun in Chicago, but "assault" rifles and 10+(?) round mags are prohibited. That won't change. What they're counting on is the prohibition of loaded guns on trains, buses, public parks etc will make it too much of a hassle for people to actually do it. The new law restricts the ability for cities to restrict "assault" rifles in the future via home rule, which is why a bunch of towns are now scrambling to get new laws in before the deadline.

Serious question. What did 2A advocates do to pressure the legislature to override the veto? In Illinois no less.
There has to be a lesson for all of us here. WE should be able to easily influence our state gov if they can do it there.
1.5 years to ramp up and take action!

Don't make the mistake of thinking they did this due to some new enlightened attitude about guns; If they didn't pass a law of some kind by Jul 9, the Federal Court would do it for them, and it might be less acceptable (to them) than this one. It would probably have been better for IL residents than what they actually got.
