Much as I would like to visit my sisters, I have no plans to ever cross the CA line.If the trip is 'voluntary', I wouldn't go.
Both states are crawling with marxist, anti-gun idiots!
Most likely a no go on the FFL idea. Oregon gets strange when taking a gun on the books and releasing back with a 4473. They are a POC state and only share info with NICS. I have seen them make special cases for and against residents of other states doing transfers and It might depend on what side of the bed they woke up on. WA has all kinds of dumb transfer laws. One Idea have not seen expressed, is to find an LGS along the route and pay them to hold your gun when entering commie states. Granted it is not a preferred idea, but if you have strip, lock up and keep your firearm in the trunk, what's the difference? You are disarmed no matter what.
I don't see any advantage in paying an LGS fees for storage and filing FFL paperwork so I can travel without a gun. This only adds additional time and expense to the tripOne Idea have not seen expressed, is to find an LGS along the route and pay them to hold your gun when entering commie states. I have been driving the country for many years including CA, CO, and OR with Texas plates in a vehicle that will stand out from a crowd.
I carry everywhere but know the consequences and make my own decisions. That's for you to decide though.
Here's the thing. Don't do anything stupid to draw attention to yourself. That's the best way to avoid trouble. Follow the traffic laws and don't drive like an asshole.
You will not be singled out because you have TX plates. That's not a problem in my experience.
Not quite. If you're transiting a state and stop for the night at a motel, you're still protected. But he doesn't have to worry as he isn't transporting anything that's illegal in Cali or Oregon. His only concern is proper storage of his handgun and ammo. The federal 'innocent passage' law doesn't protect you on that score.Big mistake. Federal transport laws allow you to transport but you can't stop anywhere, just keep going and you must follow every rule. Not worth the risk and if they stop you and arrest you you lose your ability to own a firearm. Those Texas plates will get you. That's when you know LEO per se don't respect the constitution.
Yes, it’s voluntary. California part might could be avoided but Oregon will be our 49th state so I kinda have to. ShitIf the trip is 'voluntary', I wouldn't go.

Does vegan mean they would service your meat in a back room?I am specifically concerned about Oregon and California. Crater lake is one of the stops wife wants to make. That, and there’s the only vegan tiddy bar in the US located in Portland. Wife is onboard, so I say why not?
**edit, I’m not vegan. I just think it would be a cool accomplishment, especially since accompanied By wife. Perhaps I’ll get her a lap dance,
Yuk. I’d never let it get that far. Heck in these times, and in that part of the country, it could very well be a dudeDoes vegan mean they would service your meat in a back room?
Speeding ticket 16 years agoSeriously, you’re overthinking this. When was the last time you had an LEO interaction? That’s the likelihood side of the risk equation. The impact side is anywhere from to talking to thru state charges.
On the other side is likelihood needing to defend yourself and impact of not being able to.
Yes, I did that. I have deduced that I can legally do so. If traveling through. I don’t know what the attitude is over there. All it takes is one technicality and I’m in legal trouble. What if we make a side trip and they don’t consider that passing through. If it somehow results in a felony, then there goes my hobby.Check the state websites for their laws, as one person suggested above.
Check for how it has to be carried/contained in the car. Check for mag capacity restrictions regardless of how carried. Do your homework.
I will no longer travel to/through states with restrictive gun control laws.
