Most people at that level of any organization have an oversized ego. Mattis' ego got stomped on. This is retribution.

General officers think they're aristocrats...and to some degree it's understandable.

The have personal servants referred to as an 'aide-de-camp' and most of those they come into contact with bow, scrape and quake with fear where ever their 'oh so distinguished asses' show up.

So, yeah, they get the 'big head' and think their word is gawd's......and don't get why they're very often laughed at behind their backs...
