SURVEY: Should Houston's red-light cameras be turned back on?

U.S. District Judge Lynn Hughes said that the issue as presented on the November ballot violated Houston's city charter covering the repeal of an ordinance.Fifty-three percent voted against Proposition 3 in the Nov. 2 election. The measure forced the city to stop issuing tickets for those caught by the red-light cameras.Houston had installed more than 70 cameras at intersections that were deemed "dangerous."The city of Houston went to court, claiming it had the right to keep the cameras.Hughes agreed and said the city can keep the red-light cameras, or the city has the option of paying the company the extent of the contract.

Welcome to H-town...(the "H" is for "hussle"). Where the monetary gains of a single firm out wieghs the demand of the voters. You would think they could pay that firm off with the beltway proceeds. Remeber when they said the tolls would come down once the cost was paid off? What was that 10 years ago, then they raised the rates? Oh and lets not forget the "madatory tow laws" where our officals are in bed with wrecker firms in the intreset of relieving congestion. While at the same time a single fender bender involving two cars, warrants 21 wreckers blocking traffic waiting in hopes they'll get the fare. Welcome to Hussletown Tx.
