The thread title says it all. I bought a Yugo 24/47 packed in cosmoline today and bought the ammo they had on hand. I had a lot of rounds that needed two primer strikes (the firing pin was leaving a good mark, not the rifle) and one that completetly didn't fire at all after two tries. Anyone know of some good sure-fire Mauser surplus that isn't the steel-jacketed Turkish stuff?

The rifle got cleaned before my range trip and I found that there was no rust anywhere. The bore is a mirror, with strong rifling (it looks new). The action is nice and tight and the stock is in fairly good shape. I had a lot of fun shooting it today, but my shoulder isn't on the same page. :)

1970s and up Yugo isn't bad. Stay away from the 50's stuff.

    Wolf Gold isn't too expensive.

This stuff is full power, accurate, clean burning, non-corrosive, and reloadable:

It is a little more expensive than surplus but well worth the price.

The hunting loads offered by S&B are also full power and not the watered down stuff you get remchester.

Wolf Gold is a good second choice.

I'm thinking of buying either S&B or Privi (always had good luck with their brass) and reloading them all. I'm thinking of buying some Nosler Ballistic Tip bullets and loading up some hunting rounds.

    I got about 30 once-fired 8mm brass. If you'll reload it, I'll pay ya.

Doubt that is legal - you know, adults freely exchanging goods and services - this is America you know - gotta have a permit for that.....

I am also looking for some good 8mm ammo that I can reload, or even good brass that I can reload. I too bought a German Mauser recently that is good and tight and shoots strait, even with crappy ammo. Can't wait to see what some good stuff will do!
