A soldier (wounded warrior) is stationed In San Antonio. His home state is not Texas. Can I legally sell him a handgun without FFL intervention assuming everything else is in order?

If he is STATIONED in SA then he is a Texas RESIDENT. Actually orders don't really enter into it, but if he's stationed there he would most likely be on orders unless he's passing thru. The operative word is "stationed." So yes it's legal. Even if he went through an FFL he could answer the question "what is your state of residence" as Texas.

As a vet that bought firearms in states i was stationed in, if you're buying from an FFL you need your Military ID, Orders stationing you there and a bill in your name at the address you are putting on the yellow form. Unless you have changed your residency status to that state and have a DL from that state. Private sales are just that Private.

Being active duty and stationed in San Antonio I can tell you that any time I have purchased a firearm in the state of Texas I have had to present my out-of-state driver's license (Alaska) and a copy of my orders.

Not quite right, to be stationed in Texas one must have PCS (Permanent Change of Station) orders here. If he is just "passing through," he would be on TDY (Temporary Duty) orders and not considered a resident.

I am not sure what kind of orders wounded warriors are on here, but it is simple to check, just ask him for a copy.

    Cheers! M2
