Just to nay-say.....for the joy of it.

What licenses are we fretting about?

The only memorable new one I've bought in a decade was one to fish in Colorado 3 weeks ago!
Happily paid the $21 for that one.
Fly fishing with my son. Priceless.

    Certainly didn't feel "controlled".
Money goes to game conservation and much-needed law enforcement.

Well this is not true license's for everything. You don't need a license to vote that would be discriminatory for poor people, dead, illegals and pets.

The ones you need in order to work are the most egregious. Some are fairly easy to obtain and amount to just being a tax to be productive (which is bad enough), but others have requirements that create a cartel. All of it stifles competition, innovation, and is an artificial barrier to entry.

    Dallas Texas or so
My wife recently had to get an "existence license." If you don't know what that is, it is a state ID. She hasn't had a DL in 20 years and didn't need a license of any kind until recently. Now her Doctors, hospitals and banks want to see her existence license regularly. Fortunately it has no expiration date like a DL.

I have a friend in a similar situation, his wife broke her arm and needed to go to the emergency room. They didn't want to treat her with out a state issued photo ID. So they went to another emergency room and she got treated no problem because on the way there, she suddenly became an illegal alien. That's according to him of course.
