I'm looking for a cheap pistol for my wife to shoot, and also to teach her how to shoot.

I'm not too worried about the caliber. If it ends up being something she enjoys, I'm gonna eventually get her a 9mm, but I want to make sure she actually enjoys it first.

Anybody have anything they're looking to get rid of?

    Define cheap?

I think any 22lr is a great starter pistol. Buckmark and Ruger brands you can't go wrong. Good sights and heavy enough to barley concern yourself with recoil.

Personally I like the Buckmark. They can be had from $250 to $350 range.

Jon has a great idea although its a little more than your set price but in the long run a conversion will help you get used to grip angle controls etc.

You use the pistol that you practice and train with. Quoted to me by a damn good USPSA Range Officer and competitor and friend.

$80 is about as cheap as you can get.

this particular peice actually cycles (extremely rare for a j-22) keyholes at distances outside of ten feet. use anything but federal "auto-match" bulk ammo and you can have loads of fun learning how to safely clear malfunctions. this is especially effective as the slide does not lock back (unless i totally didn't figure that out... and it does - that would be so weird.)

I had kinda been looking into the hi-point c9 for her. It's seemed go get decent reviews, and the lifetime warranty was appealing.
Especially since it can be bought for about $115

Wolfwood- ill talk to her this evening and get back to you. $80 is hard to beat

How about a Makarov? like a CZ-82 Czech military surplus. More powerful than a .380, ammo costs less than .380 and around $225.
