Looking fr remote camping and hunting!!!

Hello all, The boy and I love to pack into the rmote parts of the country . we will be doig some rough Elk huting in colorado next year and would like to brush upon our skills on being totaly self suficient. WHERE in the world can you go in Texas that isn't a state park that you can get away from people and also carry a firearm without freaking people out? I do not like state parks . It'so fun!!!
We are totaly geared up and ready to go!!!
