I just got my trust from Sean. I have been reading about the NFA items and have some questions.

From what I have gathered, the only full autos I can own are pre 86' which seem to cost as much as a car? 6k and up.

Basically the only thing I can probably own will be a suppressor or a SBR, correct?

So how do people own the new model machine guns? ex. a HKG36 or UMP or Kriss V, M4 etc. ?

    Thank you.

SBR, SBS, AOW and suppressors yes.
If you want a post 86 you form a FFL/SOT and build one.
An M16 is $25,000. The Cost to build and SOT fee for 20 years will break even. But if you build multiples its Awsome.
But your Normal toys are really cool. Say an 870 with a 12" barrel or a 7" ar15.
Even a real 40mm grenade launcher is cool. I think Each explosive grenade is $200.00 in just the stamp but a load of buck or flechette is free.

The ATF generally won't put up with you getting an SOT just so you can run around with post-86 toys or make guns. If you aren't selling any of them then you technically aren't engaged in commerce and they may revoke your FFL status which makes you forfeit your MGs. A transferable M16 can still be found for the $10,500 (sear) to the $20,000 range (collector non-fired Colt Commando or something). You can get some fun toys like the FNC and Uzi for fair amounts of money, and the upside is that you can generally expect to be able to shoot them and make all, if not more, of your money back when you sell them.

Who could I sell to if I were to build them? Plus from what I have read I would have to have a department letterhead to be able to buy a post 86 in order to demo correct? Assuming I acquired my ffl/sot.

Yeah don't really think of getting a registered machine gun as an expense. It's more of an investment. Everything has kept going up and up in price. Just 5 years ago mac-10s were $2-3000 and now they jumped up to $3-4000.

    LE agencies and other SOTs

    Yep

You would also get to buy pre 86 dealer samples, and keep them if you give up your SOT.

Here's food for thought. I started collecting machine guns in 1963. I bought a .50 Browning HB for $150, a 1921 Colt Thompson for $800, an AN-M2 .30 Browning (aircraft gun) for $300, and in 1984 I bought a Winchester M14 for $800. Expense or investment???
