One of the times I did not miss out on a good deal was back in 2011 when I decided to go down the road of the HK 91/PTR 91 platform. CTD had mil-surplus magazines for $1 for aluminum magazines and $2 for steel magazines. Over 60% of the magazines I received were still in the wrappers. All of them, except one, was fully serviceable and in good condition.
    Those were the days . . .

Pistol caliber usually something that equals 200-350(13-50 round mags) rounds per hp and fmj each per gun in same cartridge.
AR style 300-500 rounds(10-100round mags) per gun.
BA with bdm(5-6 round mag) will have 100-150 rounds per gun. So far the only dbm ba guns are 264 and 300wm and 338lm.
Lever guns are a different story.
With a 6-9 round limit I have extra on the buttstock, belt/bandalier or handguard.

    Gunz are icky.
    Minimum of 5 per weapon.
Handguns - usually 10 full capacity plus a couple of neutered ones for range use. The hi-caps stay cleaned and stored. The 10 rounders get the wear and tear.
Rifles - 10 per. Same thing. Keep the good ones stored away. The beaters get the wear and tear.

I have at least 5 for every autopistol. I only have one detachable-magazine-fed CF autoloading rifle, an AK, for which I have over 40. I've always felt comfortable at those levels.

Sometimes, though, you take precautions if you think mags might become a problem in the future. When I bought my H&K PSP, I spent roughly the same for the gun as I did for the 10 extra magazines I got at the same time. They've gone up in price since then and I doubt anyone will ever make reliable, cheap replacements.

Now, in light of the rationale behind the previous paragraph and the current political climate, I think I should buy more. Lots more. For everything...including for guns I don't own yet.
