I've read this tread many times from the time it posted till now just following what everyone is jousting back and forth.

I have but a simple question to all of you.
Re-read this thread and ask yourself; are these the same kind of conversations our forefather had prior to the commitment to the 1st revolution???

    Read my sig ;)

A main topic of daily conversation in our house is the founder's intent, the constitution, and the law of the jungle. What I want from my country is equal application of the law & justice, the opportunity to fail or succeed, and to pass this way of life on to my kids & grandkids. AKA, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

This socialist engineering entitlement mentality, and the taxation that goes with it, is beyond insane. If the government has enough money for this crap, the government has too much of our money.

I do believe our current government would be tarred & feathered, and probably hung, if this was 1776 instead of 2009.

EDIT: You guys have to read this

another thought ... glenn beck has suggested the possibility of a Reichstag event, the ruse Hitler used to seize power ... can you see BO trying something like that? I can't imagine the military following him, and he certainly can't pull one off on his own .. but a scary thought, none the less ...

No, first off ... Hitler tried unsuccessfully the first time in Munich. He was jailed for it, and he had a number of nationalistic Generals on hand as well.

Secondly, Germany was in their biggest economic downfall since the start of the state. Hitler promised the world, and actually delivered as the German machine started back up and put people to work. Hitler then won a large seat in Germany, Chancellor, and would later become the head of the state when von Hindenburg died.

Hitler served in WWI and earned two Iron Crosses as well as a Wound Badge. He commanded far more respect from the military because of that service.

Obama does not have 1/10th going for him that Hitler did. Primarily, Hitler had immense support from the people. Hitler's oratory skills were better, and he was in a better position during a better time.

I think it is a mistake to compare Obama and Hitler.

    Apples and oranges.

Hitler was truly evil. Obama is just a punk from Chicago who can read a teleprompter.

Twenty years from now, Obama will be considered just like Carter. He will waltz around, make speaches. His fans will dote on him, but nobody with a brain will take him seriously.

I just think it cheapens the meaning of the word to compare mild evil to genuine evil.

As an Army officer with 16 years in I think that the odds of a military coup, short of the dismantling of one branch of government not gonna happen. The only way this will happen is on the Company, Battery, Troop level if orders are issued to move against US citizens in violation of the Posse Commitatus act. general officers will never take the risk to move against the civillian leadership, Generals and senior officers are so political now it is actually ridiculous. Just my 2 cents.

This is a very dangerous line of thinking altogether. Texas1911 definitely has his sh** together! A "violent" coup should not even be considered by this nation! Our "coups" have always been, and should remain at the voting booths! If Obama got really crazy, and needed to be removed from office, then we have this thing called impeachment! If you thought the word "assasination" before you thought "impeachment", then you ARE one of the "problems" that Texas1911 was just talking about... PERIOD!
I don't like him either, but lets not forget what freakin' nation we're from! :patriot:

I agree and disagree. One one hand, who'd want to trade a douchebag politician that can be voted out in a few years for a general with a gun? Granted, the damage to our country the dems propose to do would be massive. I don't know if we have enough politicians willing to set things rights.

On the other hand, it's interesting in that the coup could be applied to any country on earth. At what point do their citizens revolt? I'd say hunger.

In regard to this topic, let me be simply brief and concise.......and Marines (active and former) will appreciate this.

America's spartans take very seriously this motto: Semper Fidelis = always faithful to God, Country, and Corps (and Country = U.S. Constitution).

One can speculate my meaning here, but it should be obvious (i.e., always faithful to uphold the Constitution)!!

The only issue I have with changing the course of the country via the ballot box is that there is a large and growing number of voters that are just plain stupid. People who vote for a candidate for superficial reasons with no real understanding of the issues and what the candidates have proven themselves to be.

That last part is the key thing; never mind what they say on the campaign trail - what has a candidate done in their previous elected office(s) and what have they shown themseves to believe in by their legislative record? Many people don't bother to look at the record, but instead will often vote for the candidate with the best sales pitch and a nice smile.

It has to be done with ballots instead of bullets, but it gets harder each time to find voters who have any clue about who or what they're voting for. It's hard to change things at the ballot box when so many votes are needed just to cancel out the votes of people who think that reading a teleprompter is leadership.

    . . . .

I guess I don't think that voters have been any less stupid in the past. I do think that politicians have been better able to manipulate that stupidity. I think that the moral backbone of most people simply isn't there, but that is a different issue.
