Will be heading up to Fort Hood in the near future, and will have a little spare time to hit the local military surplus shops. Any recommendations?

    Cheers! M2

Honestly, they're all decent. My two favorites are the one in the Killeen Mall and the one I pinned on the map. I'm hoping its still in business, but I haven't been in a few months. Action Pawn on Ft Hood road has a nice gun area. a748fc0897519574afe8f348f598ba21.jpg 15530b71e59b5a79c762f1d1308e663b.jpg

Thanks, that looks like Surplus City, one of the ones that showed up from a Google search but it shows it a little further to the west at 1101 Willow Springs Rd. That old location appears to be a tattoo parlor now!

Just to be clear, I am looking for actual dusty old rank-smelling used military surplus shops; not gun or tactical stores, or the places that sell modern airsoft or paintball gear.

    Cheers! M2

The one on Willow Springs and Hwy 190 is typical of the stores. It's located by a 7/11. If you're looking for BDU era type stuff. Downtown has a couple of places. They kinda have that smell you're looking for. Lock your doors if you visit those and don't give a penny to any individual walking around that may look 'down on their luck'. They are crackheads.

Most of the stuff is nice or new at any of the shops. There's no paint ball. More like Weapon lights, knives, helmet lights, practice grenades, boots. Ammo cans, field packs, medical supplies. Maybe a few of the Israeli civilian gas masks. Holsters for Berettas. Rifle slings, gloves, all the TA-50. Paracord, and trinkets. Tons of 30rd magazines. Some still in the wrapper. Ballistic glasses and the older model of Kevlar helmet. All the ACU's you could shake a stick at. They also carry the ball caps with the Velcro patch on the front.

I understand your feelings about that surplus smell but most of the stores around here are clean. The owner of the store I mentioned, owns other stores.

There's Quantico Tactical too. It's not surplus. It's the intimate tactical store. It's located on Fort Hood street (old hwy 440). North side of of hwy 190. It's in a strip mall. There's an O-Mart (asian supermarket), a dilldo store, Big Lots, ghetto liquor store, CC's pizza, and a harbor freight. They sell it all. From Trijicon to AR parts and complete rifles. All the holsters, belts, vest, rifle cases, non military tactical clothing. Handguns.

Surplus city is different from the one I was thinking of. It's good, but I've never preferred it. It's possible that one shut down and is a tattoo parlor. Shame though.

I heard something about them closing. I agree, probably over the CrAzy a$$ prices.
