I was on the deck just a few minutes ago and watched 2 young ones ignore the strawberry's and celery I put in the live trap by where they are living under the shed.
Looks like your idea may be worth a try.
Maybe get a cat?

Okay... headed to three hundred.
You guy aren’t going to believe this but a baby rabbit was killed almost literally on our front door step yesterday. I have no idea what got it - only a rear leg was left and small blood stain on the concrete. Our neighborhood doesn’t typically have loose dogs or cats running around. But there are coyotes and at least one bobcat - it’s a subdivision type neighborhood. I’m guessing it was a coyote but to literally munch out on a rabbit on our front porch, one foot in front of the front door is pretty bold (even for a “city coyote”).
You were up early for that one!never gonna happen
I have seen a coyote walking down my street in the city in broad daylight. Very bold.We have coyotes right here in town. I’ve seen them right outside my front door several times.
Those are presents. It was just trying to please its owner. Truth! Cats are really very interesting creatures. We had an outside cat and he would occasionally leave bunny parts by the doors.

Probably this, or it could be the cat thinks you’re a piss poor hunter and left it for you. Those are presents. It was just trying to please its owner. Truth! Cats are really very interesting creatures.
Why Do Cats Bring Their Owners Dead Animals?
https://www.thesprucepets.com/cat-hunting-gifts-553946
"Some cats that catch prey will bring their owners the dead–or sometimes still alive–animals in order to show off their prized catch for later consumption, as a teaching aid, or as a gift. Cats are pack animals and they often want to share their bounty with their family or are, in their own way, naturally passing on their hunting and eating knowledge to you.
"This is especially true of female cats who would normally teach their young how to hunt and eat.
"This means when a cat brings you an animal they caught, be it alive or dead, they consider you a part of their family. Their instincts are telling them this is what they need to do to survive and that they need to pass these important, life-saving skills onto their family.
"This prey catching behavior has nothing to do with being hungry; it’s just what their mind is telling them to do. Often times the “prey” being caught by indoor cats isn’t edible at all, but rather toy mice, balls, and garbage they felt that they “hunted.” These items may also be presented to you as gifts even though they are inedible.
"Prey driven behavior is not something that should be scolded but rather redirected towards toys if you have an indoor cat. If you have a cat that goes outside and you want to prevent it from bringing you animals, put bells on its collar so it is harder for them to sneak up on living prey. But if your cat does bring you a dead animal, dispose of it when they aren’t looking and replace it with a cat treat for them to eat."
Wow, that must be true because my cat told me the exact same thing yesterday.
You should 'cause his cat actually wrote that!{slowly backing away from computer}

Thats why i never let my little dog out front. Always in the back protected by a privacy fence.
Coyote snack.Same here. I caught one trying to get in our back yard to get the Pomeranian.
Smart dog.Our Pomeranian refused to walk near those drains.
I have seen yotes many times around us. I even put a round (.22 LR) in one. It was all I had close/loaded. Damn thing bolted. We have coyotes right here in town. I’ve seen them right outside my front door several times.
