    I have no proof but would guess shootings have declined in tbe past @ 20yrs. If I'm not mistaken murder per capita has declined with limited exceptions.

    Gah...I don't have the link in front of me. But yes, violent crime, including murder and even mass shootings has generally declined over the last 20 years, and at worst remained statistically more or less level. At the same time, both the population and the number of guns in private hands have grown.

    But what events do happen get a lot more coverage.
