    South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster was asked on Thursday about the Constitutional Carry bill that’s cleared the state House, and left no doubt where he stands on the measure. Speaking to WIS-TV, McMaster said if the bill gets to his desk, he won’t hesitate to sign it into law....Despite the fact that Constitutional Carry sailed through the house on a 90-30 vote earlier this week, the bill faces longer odds in the state Senate, even though Republicans still hold a 30-15 majority in the upper chamber.

    In other news:
    Florida lawmakers have already cleared the way for quick floor votes on a permitless carry bill once this year’s session officially kicks off in two weeks, and a permitless carry bill is already on the floor of Nebraska’s unicameral legislature.

    "Nebraskans are closer than ever before to not having to obtain a government-issued permission slip before exercising their right to bear arms in self-defense after lawmakers voted to advance a Constitutional Carry bill on Friday morning, overcoming a filibuster attempt by Democratic opponents that stretched over three days....Despite the fact that LB 77 passed first reading today, it could still take some time for the legislation to get to the desk of Gov. Jim Pillen."

    The article continues with developments in FL and SC who are in the process of passing constitutional carry.

    The biggest news [from Bearing Arms blog] of all is likely to come from Florida and Nebraska, which are poised to give final approval for permitless carry bills early next week....I’d say that Florida’s in a better position to become the 26th permitless carry state at this point, primarily because the GOP’s majorities in Tallahassee are so large Democrats can’t put up a lengthy fight.

    South Carolina might make another attempt at passing permitless carry after failing in last legislative session. Passed their House but not voted on in Senate.

    From Bearing Arms blog;

    After passing out of the South Carolina House by wide margins back in February, a constitutional carry bill has made little progress in the state Senate. A Senate subcommittee gave its approval last month, and earlier this week the Senate Judiciary Committee gave it a favorable report and sent the SB 109 to the Senate floor by a 12-11 vote, but the Senate failed to bring up the bill for a vote before the legislature adjourned its regular session on Thursday.

    Will constitutional carry be one of those “outstanding issues”? Maybe, but if so gun owners and Second Amendment advocates are going to have to continue to push the Senate to move forward

    And now let's hear it for Michigan getting on board with constitutional carry...NOT. MI is what's called 'Democratic trifecta' meaning Ds control all so any permitless carry bill will die a quick death. But at least someone is trying. From the Bearing Arms blog;

    After Michigan Democrats outlined their vision for gun control in the state with newly passed laws, Senate Republicans have recently introduced their own firearm proposals.

    The GOP legislation would repeal sections of Michigan law that makes it a felony to carry a concealed firearm without a concealed pistol license, otherwise known as “constitutional carry.”

    The same legislature that just passed a number of anti-gun bills in Michigan isn’t suddenly going to pass pro-gun bills like this. It’s just not realistic to believe so.

    The Pelican States stepping up with constitutional carry.

    So far this year we’ve seen two states adopt permitless or constitutional carry, not only with the support of lawmakers but with the backing of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen. If Louisiana is going to follow suit and become the 28th state to recognize the right to bear arms without a government-issued permission slip, however, legislators are going to have to overcome an anticipated veto by Democrat Gov. John Bel Edwards, who previously killed a similar measure back in 2021.

    No constitutional carry in LA this year or maybe the future according to Bearing Arms blog.

    Republican lawmakers added so many poison pill amendments to the bill that author and state Rep. Danny McCormick ended up pulling the bill from consideration late Tuesday, killing the prospects of constitutional carry for the year… and perhaps beyond.

    The Palmetto State will have to wait to 2024 for permitless carry.

    The South Carolina 2023 legislative session has informally adjourned without a sine-die resolution and has no plans to return this calendar year. Despite the adjournment, both NRA-backed Constitutional Carry bills, S. 109 and H. 3594, are still alive and will be pending on the Senate floor when the legislature returns in January 2024.

    Gov. Jim Pillen signed LB 77 into law back in April, declaring that the bill upheld the promise made to voters to “protect our constitutional rights and promote commonsense, conservative values” and praising state Sen. Tom Brewer for championing the bill year after year, slowly making progress until the legislation finally had the votes to cross the finish line.

    While the bill was signed into law months ago, its provisions didn’t officially take effect until [Sep 1s] making
    Nebraska officially the 27th state to recognize the right to bear arms in some form or fashion without the need for lawful gun owners first receive a license.

    With Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry’s stunning victory in the gubernatorial jungle primary over the weekend [Oct 2023], the state will soon have a GOP trifecta; majority control of both chambers of the legislature as well as the governor’s office. That should help clear the way for the passage of Constitutional Carry,...MAYBE.

    "...the pressure will be on state senators to finally get on board with permitless carry, especially since Landry made passage of the measure one of his campaign issues.

    From the Bearing Arms blog are further comments about the prior attempts to pass constitutional carry and future chances it will pass.

    Things might change in 2024 with a new Governor likely to approve constitutional carry from the AmmoLand blog

    Louisiana is likely to pass a Constituional Carry bill and enact it into law in 2024. The particulars of the bill are unknown....
    A constitutional or permitless carry bill was passed overwhelmingly in 2021. The vote was 72 to 28 in the House. A similar bill in the Senate passed 27 to 11. There were enough votes to override a veto, but the Louisiana Governor is very powerful. Governor John Bel Edwards had enough clout to veto the bill and make it stick.

    Governor-elect Jeff Landry said, before the October election, he would see constitutional carry passed while he is in office.

    More good news about declining concealed carry license/permit/LTC etc. they are dropping.

    Wait for it wait for it :peace: :drummer: :drummer:

    At first glance that seems surprising given that eight states that were formerly “may issue” have now moved, however reluctantly, to a “shall issue” regime (at least in theory), but according to Lott there’s a simple explanation for the decline: the rise of permitless carry.

    More on story from Bearing Arms blog

    Quick look at TX stats show;

    2016-369K LTC issued
    2022-274K LTC issued

    1.7 million active LTC holders as of 12/21/2021

    News from LA on constitutional carry in '24

    Next year, however, the Republican supermajority won’t have to contend with a governor who’s hostile to the idea. Attorney General Jeff Landry won the state’s “jungle primary” outright last month by getting more than 50 percent of the vote, and Republicans gained more seats in the state legislature as well. McCormick says that should seal the deal for constitutional carry in 2024 and make Louisiana the 28th state to adopt the measure.
