I'm having some trouble getting into field stripping my Mossberg 500 Tactical. The barrel comes off fine, but as soon as I try to get my pistol grip off I run into trouble. The tactical stock pulls right off but the pistol grip looks like it's being held by a circle-shaped screw of some sort. I was reading on some other forums and they said something about it being a hex-screw, that's a no-go. I've tried seven different hex-screwdrivers and no luck. Does anyone know what I can try to get the pistol grip off so I can access the internals?

It is a hex head and a large one, maybe 3/8. At least on mine. I also had to use the long end with a wrench for leverage. Hope that helps

I had to use a long 3/16 ball allen wrench to remove my Knoxx Collapsible Stock. The new stock required a long flat head screw driver.

    GL with yours.

Thanks mk, got it stripped with an allen wrench and a wrench turning it for some extra leverage. I was a bit disappointed at the owner's manual though, it didn't have a page in there for what tools you needed for a field stip not to mention how to even go about removing the tactical stock/pistol grip.
