In the TGT spirit of encouraging thread drift, here's something 180 degrees away from why the OP started this thread. I'm just posting it here because it bugs me.

Does anybody like Lyn Stanley's music? I find it soaked with affectation. Yes, she's a good singer and the recordings are top-quality. But her style just ruins everything.

In other words, do y'all know any artists who are famous, put on a pedestal by critics, and you just can't understand why?

    Never heard of her/him/it.
She's a faux-sultry, breathy jazz singer who has a talent for divorcing the lyrics from the beat. She's also a darling among some critics.

Example of how she treats a familiar song -

    Not a fan of Lyn.
Neither am I. I find it very odd that some critics on whom I traditionally rely for music recommendations fawn over her.

I guess I'm just sanity-checking myself. Thanks for showing me that if I'm going crazy, at least I have good company. :)

Bob Dylan...just never got into his sound
Oh, yeah. Agreed. He did some good writing but his performances were underwhelming. Still, I sorta regret turning down free tickets to see him when I was in college. I feel like I should have done it once but, even back then, I just didn't like his singing.
