I decided that I needed an appropriate deer rifle for Texas and this is what I've come up with so far, a Remington 700 in .243 Winchester. I have plans for the rifle, it will eventually sit in a Bell and Carlson Alaskan Ti stock and sport a Timney or Jewell trigger. I did get a chance to sight-in the scope that I had laying around and put a few rounds down range after I took these pictures.

X-Mark Pro Adjustable (not that fantastic)

Only the best kind of optics for this job (obviously temporary)

I could mess with it and get it lighter, but I haven't really commited to that. I might give it a go before I plan on buying another trigger and see what I can get. I'm not fond of the smooth trigger on the X-Mark, by smooth I mean the texture of the trigger metal itself. I like the older style with the vertical ridges.
