I have been wanting to pick up duck hunting but, I have no idea where to start. I honestly don't know what all is entailed in it and no one in my family or any of my friends hunt so I cant ask them anything. So where is a good place to start getting info since I'm clueless :lolz:

Unless you can hook up with someone that is into duck hunting, your best bet to start off would be one of the outfitters, who offer guided hunts with all of the gear --- They usually supply a place, decoys, calls, blinds, boats, dogs etc.

Look around for a local DU (Ducks Unlimited) Chapter and go to one of their meetings. Might hook-up with a hunting buddy that way.

+1 If you're starting from scratch go with an outfitter once or twice and let them show you the basics. Ask questions, make sure they know 100% that you're a noob and that you need a guided hunt. Don't stop asking questions in the field (quietly LOL!) they should be very good at working with you and helping you have a good experience. :2cents:

First thing you need is a shotgun and ammo...

    Warm clothes

As a rule of thumb, the colder, nastier the weather the better the hunt

I don't have a bird dog anymore so I just go out in the boat and take a small canoe to use for fetching the birds.

Oh I have a shotgun, I used to like shooting my rifles till I got my shotgun and I fell in love with shooting clays :happy0001: Thats what spurred me on to going duck hunting but I might end up going for dove or quail. Hell ill probably end up doing all 3 ;)

OH and I'm pretty sure you are required to use steel shot as well, and not all chokes can handle steel shot.
