I have naively trusted gun manufacturers to deliver fully functional firearms to the buying public.

On more than one occasion, I was sorely disappointed with my purchases over the past 12 years.

    To Wit:

IAI M666 .30 Cal Carbine: Defective Gas Piston, Failure to Cycle.

    Taurus M-85: Shattered recoil shield.

    Springfield M1911A1: Defective slide.

Pro-Ordnance Carbon 15, Type 97: Out of spec chamber.

    Ruger LCP: Recall

    Ruger Vaquero: Recall

    Ruger SR9: Recall

    Walther USA S&W PPKS-1: Recall

    Walther PK380: Defective take-down wedge/key

H&K AR-15/M-16 Magazine: Defective base plate.

In fairness, all the above gun makers made good on my warranty claims.

It's just a shame that they cannot make them work the first time.

I did get a few "gimme" caps, decals, and stickers out of my troubles, though.

    What's your experience?

Next, let's talk about our super-reliable guns straight from the box.

I have had 1911s that need tuning. You think they could get it right after 100 YEARS?
The truth is everything is buggy. When you want to buy a brand new idea that idea
Will need some final polish to make it perfect. Why can't they get it right the first time? Well they can but the first hand made test guns of a model run tens of thousands of dollars and they are modded and worked until they are right. Then a run of production guns is made. Sometimes they are good enough but most times they need a modification to make them better.

Kimber Pro Carry II - returned for reliability issues
Kimber TLE - returned for reliability issues
Kimber Pro Carry II Stainless - returned for reliability issues
Kahr PM40 - slide locks back prematurely, FTRB

Maybe its just the "K" guns. I'll never own another Kimber, two other Kahr's have been just fine.

I have never had an issue with one new out of the box. I did buy an EEA witness one time that would jam up on target loads but I knew that when I bough it.

SA V-10. Came with a non-compensated barrel. Saw it when I opened the box before leaving the shop. Guy behind the counter had the balls to ask me if I changed the barrel while he wasn't looking.

Was that a local shop? Would you mind sharing which one so that I don't go there?

I've actually never owned a factory new firearm. Most of my guns have been older than me.

As a result, I've never had an issue as any issues they might have had were worked out long before I got my hands on them.

My ruger's slide failed to return to battery, but that as straight out of the box. A cleaning helped reduce it and a hundred round or so through it and the problem never returned. My Lagrange cw9, Browning buckmark, and sig p250 were flawless. Rem700 and s&w m&p15 were also trouble fee.
Sorry to hear of the luck you've had.

Steyr M40-After half a box of ammo the trigger was almost impossible to pull.
Springfield M1A- Gas Cylinder cap stripped out.
kimber Ultra Carry- Magazine release had to be pushed in to insert mag and it shot (from a rest) 6-8in low at 15 yards.
    S&W PPK/S- Recall.
    Colt WWI (repro)-Recall.
Colt Defender- Extractor failed to extract.

I sent each one back to the mfg and received them back repaired although Kimber was the fastest. I sent the Ultra Carry off on a Tuesday and got it back and shot it on Thursday of the same week. The Defender I am keeping my eye on as after I got it back (December 2010) I shot forty or so rounds with no problem and yesterday it failed once to extract. We shall see.

I've heard of extremely rare issues with many manufacturer's products but you got THREE Kimbers that had issues?

Care to explain that a bit to the rest of us?
