New to the area - Looking for a Gunsmith with reasonable rates

Welcome to the forum! I'm kinda' a newbie here also but there should be plenty of gunsmiths in your area (but not living there I'm not familiar with any). Members in your area may be able to help you out without a gunsmith. Go to the introductions forum and check in.

Many are backed up several weeks or months... I was looking at having some barrels threaded...2-5 month wait.

I took my rifle to ray's sporting and hardware in Dallas to get the barrel threaded and took a week but they did great work and good price.
