I picked up a new toy this weekend at the FT Worth show. A Spanish Destroyer Carbine.Didnt know much about it then, but I do now.
9mm Bergman or 9mm Largo, which is 9x23.

Really neat little rifle, it dates to 1956, magazine fed bolt action and they were never really mill arms they were issued to Spanish Police.

Cleaned it and fire it this evening, I think I found a keeper.

Does anyone have any experience with this rifle?

I have never messed with any kind of milsurps, but this thing is cool.

Yup! Had one years ago and it was fun. Real easy to handle. used to keep it on my Ferguson TO-30 in the fields!

...as always, stock up on that Largo ammo...

ENJOY!

Learn me how to download and post and I'll show you the gun and my smiling face. I am something of a novice when it comes to that.
Funny thing is, that I can take a rifle that I have never even seen before, break it down, hell,I even disassembled the bolt, clean and lube. Put it back together and fire it.
The camera and computer? Maybe its because, it doesnt require tools and have the enticing aroma of Hoppes and lubricant.HAHA!

Google, spanish destroyer carbine and you can see pics and info. I read something a few years ago about them and that is the only reason I had and idea about them. I found a reprint of a Guns and Ammo article from 2005.

Sweet looking little rifle! How much do they go for?

Just fyi, just remember that 9mm Largo (although it physically is 9x23 in size) is different from 9x23 Winchester, which is a substantially higher pressure round. Both calibers are the same dimensions, but the pressure difference is substantial. Most guns chambered in 9x23 Largo cannot withstand the increased pressure of 9x23 Winchester loadings.

Sig Fiend, thanks for the info, I looked at ballistics on several rounds and you are correct. Several people told me I could shoot all kinds of shorter rounds 380,9mm,38auto etc, in it but they fail to think about a rimless cartridge seats in the chamber on the crimp. Thus the only thing holding it would be the extractor. win 9x23 does produce significantly more pressure. 9mm Largo is pretty easy to find and pretty inexpensive.

TXSUT, I dont know what the rifle is worth. I found one on GUNBROKER Sat. night that had 4 bids to 287.00 and had a buy it now price of 499.00. Auction ended on Sun a.m. and was back up mon a.m. with a first bid of 280.00 and change.
I dont know what they cost or are worth but I think I did pretty good at 125.00 with 2 mags and a box of ammo. By the way, mine is a whole lot cleaner than the one on Gunbroker. I found a website that puts the date of manuf at early 1956.
Biggest reason I took the plunge on something unknown like this, It was really neat rifle and I have been known to run bar tabs for more than that.HAHAHA

I shot 10 rds offhand at about 30 yds. Seemed to group decently. I was shooting above poa, then I paid attention to the sights. The rear looks like it came off a big mauser, marked out to 700 mtrs and I had it on the second notch which would be a little high at the distance I was shooting. It was about dusk so I will try again and let you know. The article from 2005 Guns and Ammo magazine said that the author got some really nice groups at 60 yds from .75 to 1.25 depending on ammo. He listed velocities from about 1200 to 1450 fps.
Oh well, it is what it is. And IT IS FUN!
