Yea, saw that on the news this morning and thought WTH! Risky to say the least but I suppose all's well that ends well.

Willden is a former police officer and teaches a firearms course. He was wearing a pistol at the time and recalled reaching for his gun, aiming downward through the glass toward the car's ceiling and shooting the rear passenger window. As he reached inside for the occupants, more men came running into the water.

Risky, but I'd put this in the same category as taking someone out of a car after an accident. If you don't have to, don't. If they'll die if you don't, then take the risk.That said... Buy a spring loaded center punch and carry it in your car. If you ever HAVE to take a car window out, that's the tool to have.
