In the spirit of "no good reason" I submit.

How the heck is DFW North Texas?
Perryton is only +-50 miles from Kansas for crying out loud!
You want North? Spend a winter on the plains.

You can claim North East. El Paso can claim West most.

Check a Republic of Texas map from the 1800s'.

We really had North covered back then.

I've wondered the same thing and I live in "North Texas".
I guess I could say it's the proximity to the Red River that gives us that delineation but what about those residing in Wichita Falls, or Paris. Texarkana (not a Red River county but still North) or Matador? Can we all claim North Texas as home? I would submit yes but Matador and Wichita Falls would claim West Texas while Paris and Texarkana would claim East.

People living North of that in the Panhandle we call panhandle people and even though they are (by Latitude lines) North of us they are still Texans.

I'm from North Texas. Someone from Amarillo is from the Panhandle.
